Tractor Wood Chipper

There are different kinds of tractors in the market. The most high tech of them all would have to be the tractor wood chipper. They are hydraulic and they function in the same way as a regular wood chipper, but they are mounted on a tractor, hence the name, tractor wood chipper. Wood chippers help to reduce the dirt that tree branches make on your lawn when they break or fall off. There are lots of traditional wood chippers in the market but a tractor wood chipper wins over them because it is able to provide incomparable mobility. Some of the tractor wood chippers operate with the help of a three-point hitch and not a typical ball hitch.

The Three-Point Hitch on the Tractor Wood Chipper

To be able to attach the wood chipper to the tractor, you should first know how to locate the three-point hitch. If the machine is not a stand-alone model, then it should be attached to and pulled by a tractor and usually, the hitch connector is found at the back end of the wood chipper. Check first if your machine has a rigid shaft with a ball cover attached to it. In this case, you are not looking at a three point hitch. A three point hitch looks like a triangle with two lower connections and a connection should be present at the front end of the wood chipper. Just attach this part to be able to mount the chipper and enable the tractor wood chipper to work. While installing this, always make sure that the machine is turned off.

Keeping Yourself Safe

The use of a tractor wood chipper or any kind of wood chipper for that matter is not 100% safe. Just imagine this: the machine is capable of devouring large chunks of wood and your hands and fingers can easily become food to this very deadly machine. When you are using a tractor wood chipper, you should be very careful. Remember the following tips for your safety:

  • Always take note of the distance between the blades and the entry port. If your wood chipper has a wide expanding entryway, you should feel safer because this means that you are given a larger space to work in. Obviously, if your wood chipper has a narrow entryway, make sure to keep your hands away from it and focus your attention to what you are doing.
  • Only a person who has experience and proper training with the equipment should be allowed to operate it. It also important to note that every chipper is different and you cannot just assume that they are used similarly.
  • Always keep the wood chipper on a level ground so that it is steady and firmly placed. If it is rocking, and it accidentally rocks while you are feeding wood into the machine, you might get into an accident. Do not try to move the machine while it is functioning, as well and remember to keep it stable on the ground.

A Final Note

When you have already purchased a tractor wood chipper, make sure that it gets checked regularly to keep it working longer and performing at optimum levels. A lot of problems do occur because owners fail to get their machines serviced and as a result, they would have to keep replacing their wood chippers.
